The molecular formula of ozone is O₃. It is a sky blue fishy odor gas, dark black in liquid state and blue black in solid state. Ozone is mainly found in the ozone layer in the lower part of the stratosphere, 20 kilometers from the Earth's surface. It absorbs, blocks and weakens harmful short-wave ultraviolet rays, preventing them from reaching the earth.
Ozone destroys the structure of microbial membranes by the oxidation of oxygen atoms to achieve bactericidal effect. The inactivation reaction of ozone to bacteria is always very rapid, different from other fungicides: ozone can react with the double bond of bacterial cell wall lipids, penetrate into the interior of the bacteria, act on proteins and lipopolysaccharides, and change the cell's permeability, leading to bacterial death. Ozone also acts on nuclear substances in cells, such as purines and pyrimidines in nucleic acids, to damage DNA. Ozone first acts on the cell membrane, causing damage to the constituent components of the membrane, resulting in metabolic obstacles.
